Most ballistic shields come from composite materials that combine polyethylene or aramid fibers with plastic for adequate defense against incoming bullets. The ballistic shield built from these materials will appear similar to body armor plates. Adding a ceramic coating (covering the shield in ceramic) to the exterior of a ballistic shield makes it more resistant to projectiles, especially projectiles that include a steel core. Some ballistic shields feature see-through glass, ambidextrous grips, and night-vision LEDs on the front and back of the shield. Some other ballistic shields have a wheeled frame that allows the wearer to use the shield in conjunction with any other handheld device. They can perform various functions depending on their length, which can range from a few inches to several feet. Ballistic shields do not have to come into close contact with the user’s body, so the wearer cannot sustain injuries from bullets that come close to the shield.
Ballistic shields are made of specific metals and composite materials to protect against high-velocity bullets, explosive shrapnel, and other projectiles. Today, consumers can choose from various armor and ballistic shielding products to meet their needs. Ceramic tiles, bulletproof vests and body armor, ballistic body armor, steel armor plates, vehicle armor, and other types of armor are some examples.
The level of ballistic protection that an enemy vehicle will have is going to be determined by the possibility that hostile troops are going to fire upon the vehicle. Composite armor, which offers a lower level of protection against fragmentation and small weapons fire, is less likely to be utilized on Humvees as opposed to reactive metallic armor, which is more likely to be effective for such a purpose. Composite armor offers a lower level of protection against shrapnel (a sort of armor that detonates away from the Humvee to destroy the bullet).
